{"id":4125,"date":"2017-11-09T02:04:55","date_gmt":"2017-11-09T02:04:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dreamcastify.wordpress.com\/?p=4125"},"modified":"2024-12-08T05:32:30","modified_gmt":"2024-12-08T05:32:30","slug":"fixing-the-pc-version-of-sadx","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dreamcastify.unreliable.network\/index.php\/fixing-the-pc-version-of-sadx\/","title":{"rendered":"Fixing the PC version of SADX"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This page will tell you how to improve your SADX experience on PC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, let&#8217;s have a look at some mods that fix issues in SADX, make it more like the Dreamcast version or just improve it in general:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forums.sonicretro.org\/index.php?showtopic=25301\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SADX Fixed Edition<\/a> (SADXFE) by <em>SonicFreak94<\/em> &#8211; fixes a bunch of bugs in the 2004 PC port and adds some minor features. Does not restore Dreamcast assets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.moddb.com\/mods\/sadx-dreamcast-conversion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dreamcast Conversion<\/a> by <em>PkR<\/em> &#8211; restores Dreamcast levels, <a href=\"https:\/\/dreamcastify.unreliable.network\/index.php\/texture-quality-downgrades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">textures<\/a>, object models, special effects, menus, branding, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forums.sonicretro.org\/index.php?showtopic=36292\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lantern Engine<\/a> (Dreamcast lighting) by <em>SonicFreak94<\/em> &#8211; recreates the <a href=\"https:\/\/dreamcastify.unreliable.network\/index.php\/lighting-downgrades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LANTERN lighting engine<\/a> from the Dreamcast version in the PC port.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SonicFreak94\/sadx-input-mod\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Input Mod<\/a> by <em>SonicFreak94<\/em> (built into the Mod Loader as of November 2023) &#8211; fixes issues with XInput controllers (spinning camera bug etc.) and some DInput controllers. It&#8217;s also compatible with all kinds of DInput controllers, so it&#8217;s a must have for anyone using controllers to play the game.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/michael-fadely\/sadx-frame-limit\/releases\/\">Frame Limit<\/a> by <em>SonicFreak94<\/em> &#8211; makes the game run at a more consistent framerate and reduces stuttering.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/forums.sonicretro.org\/index.php?showtopic=37034\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dreamcast Characters Pack<\/a> by <em>ItsEasyActually<\/em> &#8211; restores Dreamcast <a href=\"https:\/\/dreamcastify.unreliable.network\/index.php\/character-model-downgrades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">character models<\/a>, includes a different Metal Sonic model and the stretchy feet effect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/SonicFreak94\/sadx-onion-blur\/releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SADX Onion Skin Blur<\/a> by <em>SonicFreak94<\/em> &#8211; restores Sonic&#8217;s running <a href=\"https:\/\/dcmods.unreliable.network\/owncloud\/data\/PiKeyAr\/files\/Setup\/modcomparison\/blur.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;motion blur&#8221;<\/a> effect like in the <a href=\"https:\/\/dcmods.unreliable.network\/owncloud\/data\/PiKeyAr\/files\/Dreamcastify\/Characters\/Blur_DCJ.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Japanese version of SA1<\/a>. Looks best with Dreamcast Characters&#8217; stretchy feet effect!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/dcmods.unreliable.network\/owncloud\/data\/PiKeyAr\/files\/Setup\/modcomparison\/hdgui.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HD GUI 2<\/a> by <em>PkR<\/em> &amp; others &#8211; adds high-resolution textures for menus, HUD, tutorials etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sound Overhaul 3 by <em>PkR<\/em> &#8211; fixes a lot of sound bugs described in the <a href=\"https:\/\/dreamcastify.unreliable.network\/index.php\/sound-and-music-quality-downgrades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sound and Music<\/a> section and replaces most sound effects with higher-quality sounds ripped from the Dreamcast version.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/kellsnc\/sadx-super-sonic\/releases\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/github.com\/kellsnc\/sadx-super-sonic\/releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Super Sonic<\/a> by <em>Kell<\/em> &#8211; allows to transform into Super Sonic during regular gameplay after beating the Final story.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Time of Day by <em>PkR<\/em> &#8211; if you&#8217;ve beaten the story, you can change the time of day by taking the train between Station Square and the Mystic Ruins.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.moddb.com\/mods\/sadx-dreamcast-conversion\/news\/dreamcast-exclusive-dlcs-now-playable-in-sadx-pc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dreamcast DLC<\/a> by <em>PkR<\/em> &#8211; this mod recreates Dreamcast-exclusive downloadable content in the PC port.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gitlab.com\/PiKeyAr\/sadx-style-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SADX Style Water<\/a> by <em>PkR<\/em> &#8211; this mod restores the ocean wave effect in Emerald Coast and fixes a few problems with the SADX version of the level without reverting it to the Dreamcast version.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let&#8217;s see how to install these mods. Thanks to <em>MainMemory<\/em>&#8216;s SADX Mod Loader it&#8217;s possible to mod the 2004 PC port without altering the game&#8217;s executable or resources. With the Mod Loader you can enable or disable various mods and codes, and you can always just turn off the Mod Loader to revert to the original version of the game. Installing SADX mods is relatively easy, but there are also mod installers that can set up everything for you in one go. If you&#8217;re getting started with SADX mods, you can use a mod installer.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/media.moddb.com\/images\/members\/5\/4015\/4014908\/profile\/installer-screens.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media.moddb.com\/images\/members\/5\/4015\/4014908\/profile\/installer-screens.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>There are two mod installers: <a href=\"http:\/\/steamcommunity.com\/sharedfiles\/filedetails\/?id=299808681\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BetterSADX<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sadxmodinstaller.unreliable.network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SADX Mod Installer<\/a>. BetterSADX is meant for the Steam version, while the Mod Installer is universal. Both installers replace the Steam version&#8217;s executable with the 2004 version to enable Mod Loader support, and install the Mod Loader and some of the popular mods. The installers have a slightly different selection of mods and use different approaches to patching the PC version and installing mods. <strong>As of 2024, BetterSADX is no longer compatible with newer versions of the Mod Manager, so I recommend using the SADX Mod Installer instead.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assuming you&#8217;ve installed and arranged the mods let&#8217;s discuss their configuration. Some mods come with configurable settings, which can be customized in the Mod Loader&#8217;s config editor &#8211; just select the mod and press &#8220;Configure&#8230;&#8221;. The options are self-explanatory for the most part. Here are some options you can change in Dreamcast Conversion:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Title screen customization (logo size, ripple effect etc.), enable or disable Cream cameos<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enable or disable individual levels\/bosses, as well as Dreamcast-related branding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enable or disable alternative water textures that look more like SADX water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enable or disable the Cowgirl from the Japanese version of SA1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dreamcast Chao Gardens: enable or disable individual Chao Garden replacements and the Chao Race lobby<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enable or disable the ingame water ripple effect from the Dreamcast version<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enable or disable <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pkr_sadx\/status\/968351847336632320\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the original subtitle fonts<\/a>, as well as their <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pkr_sadx\/status\/968506974458425346\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">colorization<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enable or disable <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pkr_sadx\/status\/969157862046842882\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FMV colorization<\/a> and smoother FMV skip transition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And many more!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some options for other mods:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dreamcast DLC &#8211; &#8220;vanilla SADX mode&#8221; to make the DLCs work without Dreamcast levels, run different DLCs during different months, select which extra Twinkle Circuit each character goes to etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dreamcast Characters Pack: toggle between <a href=\"https:\/\/dcmods.unreliable.network\/owncloud\/data\/PiKeyAr\/files\/Dreamcastify\/Characters\/Skychase_DC.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the low-poly Sky Chase models<\/a> and higher quality models that the original game used only in cutscenes, enable or disable the stretchy feet effect completely or after the Light Speed Shoes are obtained, enable or disable the alternative Metal Sonic model<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some comparison shots:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table aligncenter\"><table><thead><tr><th class=\"has-text-align-center\"
